Nyonya Memoirs- A memoir of Love and Culture

Let me just say, I am not a Theater expert. Although since my involvement in the very first run Of Broken Bridges at KLPAC under the baton of James Boyle and subsequently Mervyn Peters, I think I've seen enough musicals to know how to appreciate a good one. Having said that, the tremendous amount of effort that has been put into Nyonya Memoirs, and still making it financially affordable to the general public is very admirable. The emount of detail that has gone into the production of the set, costumes by Beatrice Looi the actors, dancers, lights and sound, I feel, really came together.

Sure the concept of the story is familiar but to be fully immersed in it and taking part in the experience of life at that time. That, is truly unique. I do not want to get your hopes up to go watch this show. But at the same time I am so excited for you all to experience this performance. To put it bluntly, The experience is like paying to go into a haunted house where the ghosts and people in monster suits try to scare you. But, In this case its like time travelling into the past to see an age that is almost forgotten in our history books, a heritage that needs to be preserved for generations to come.

No I am not of Baba Nyonya descent, but I guess if I really thought about it I can relate to the Peranakan lineage. Being a Malaysian is all about embracing the entire spectrum of our cultural diversities. We are not from anywhere else but here. We grew up here, we made our lives here, and so did the characters in Nyonya Memoirs.

The breakfast area is really pretty with natural sunlight and NO MOSQUITOES not one! must be they died from the severe heat and humidity outside All rooms are air conditioned by the way

This place is worth the drive out of town and avoid the jam and enjoy the seaside breeze and view

That is Chef Charlie and his wife Chef Bong(In yellow t shirt) both previously attached with Renaissance Hotel before it became ramada hotel 

I Dont like lontong but this was pretty alright with some ice lemon tea,
3 lontongs and a plate of nasi lemak and 2 ice lemon teas and a bottle of mineral water 500ml RM19.10 only

Cheese Prawn Noodles at Tong Sheng Restaurant, The place is popular so just go google the name its very near to the Nyonya memoirs performance space

The Quintessential Iced drink to have in Malacca, Although RM4 but it tasted oh so goooooooood on Jonker Walk

What better souvenirs to get your loved ones at home than some good old fasiong Belacan Bulat and other unique snacks this is near Nyonya Delights just ask them where to buy Belacan. 

 To end this post, I would just like to mention that all the Makan places above have wifi connections as the mobile network coverage in Malacca is quite scarce indoors. Performances are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Show times are at 4pm and 8pm.
run time is about as much time it takes to travel through time and experience awesomeness but its about 70-80 minutes!
